And the 25-year-old Manchester City striker did it in sensational style, registering 16 goals in eight World Cup qualifying matches - netting at least once in each of those matches.

This positions him as the leading goalscorer in 2026 World Cup qualifying in every region.

Additionally, his squad's 4-1 win against Italy on Sunday, where Haaland scored twice, ensures they will competing in next summer's World Cup in North America.

Haaland, speaking afterwards: "I'm happy, but more relieved. There's significant pressure and factors, and I experience it. But it's exciting."

This marks merely their fourth World Cup, and their premier global event since the 2000 Euros.

What Significance Was Haaland's Contribution?

Haaland's goalscoring record for Norway is truly extraordinary.

He has scored 55 goals in 48 matches for Norway.

Additionally he is merely the sixth athlete ever, and the premier in half a century, to net 50 strikes in under 50 international games.

Norway's previous highest scorer was 33-goal Jorgen Juve, who held that record for nine decades.

Throughout these preliminary games he netted 16 strikes - in eight encounters - plus two goal contributions.

This represents twice the scoring total anyone else has netted in UEFA matches.

He is the highest scorer in these qualifying matches in all continents, including ones where national sides participate double the matches.

More than twelve months has elapsed since Haaland last failed to score in a match for his country.

Squad Contribution Complementing Haaland

Yet it isn't solely about one player.

Captain Martin Odegaard, 26, has greater goal contributions than anyone else in European qualifying - seven setups.

The Gunners playmaker has played 67 times for Norway since his initial cap at the age of 15.
