The celebrated English actor Dame Helen, currently recipient of an Academy Award, four Baftas, Golden Globe wins, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, is set to earn an additional prestigious accolade to her shelf: the Cecil B DeMille Globes' lifetime achievement award.

Ceremony Details

Dame Helen, 80, previously made a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will receive the award in a ceremony on 8 January, just prior to the Golden Globes main event are held, as part of an event billed by the Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

Also part of the event will be the presentation of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett honor for TV work, the honoree for which is still to be revealed. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is an unstoppable talent, and her professional journey is nothing short of extraordinary,” stated the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her brilliant portrayals and dedication to acting continue to inspire generations of artists and viewers as well. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her this lifetime achievement honor.”

Professional Journey

The star rose to fame back in the 70s through significant parts in stage productions at London’s West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films including O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her prominent part in the investigative show Prime Suspect expanded her audience even more. Other key films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She won an Oscar for her portrayal as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a character she reprised in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings between the queen and the PM Margaret Thatcher, and for which Mirren won a Tony in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• More recent films include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, where she served as narrator.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim with award talk is building about her portrayal as a dying matriarch in Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• Next year, Mirren will be seen as Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Globes nominations are set to be revealed December 8, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
