Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months following starting disrespectful songs directed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.
Previous History Involving the Striker and Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Struggles
The forward made 18 games with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
