Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, our country," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd choose in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson stated "without a doubt that it hurts" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.

Toronto's team secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
